If they are using a bog standard convolutional neural network, they might not be able to explain the decisions it makes. The US military used them in deciding what drone targets to attack in Pakistan and ended up bombing and killing ordinary people just going about their business. Using these technologies in certain areas with no oversight is just criminally negligent in my opinion.
