Data centres use less than 1% of fresh water
Data centres also use around 1–2% of global electricity. Fossil fuels, transport and heavy industry cause far more pollution overall.
The real issue is where these data centres are built and whether the energy is clean. If they are built in dry areas and powered by fossil fuels, that’s a problem.
Per user, youd' probably use more water streaming a youtube video than using ai. This isn't to say we shouldn't monitor and make it cleaner but people seem to be looking in the wrong place
