You can't quantity ethicality to say "how" unethical it is, but yes, it's unethical. AI doesn't create images from nowhere. It's scraping the art of hundreds upon hundreds of artists from the internet to create your prompt. If you're using AI to inspire yourself by creating a visual representation of your character for yourself, to never be seen by anyone but you, then it's at best neutrally amoral and at worst a little immoral for contributing to the AI supply-demand hellscape. If you choose to put it in a book you intend to sell, you are, without question, committing an immortal act. You're stealing the hard work and stamping on the copyright and common decency of hundreds of people to use for something you intend to make profit from. To put it this way: if you publish your book(s), and then some other "novelist" inspired by your work makes a book with AI generated text by scraping from your and similar novelists' works for themselves to make money off of, you wouldn't be happy, would you?
