It's not a "silicon phobia". A religious person might say that a soul needs to be "given, bestowed upon" a living being, while I am saying that it might be some innate physical (perhaps quantum) aspect of how mass/energy interacts with itself as part of a system when ordered in a certain way we do not understand yet.
That entire interaction involves analog data, because analog is what physics is. The digital (mostly binary) language of our computers is just an innately random pattern of two (when binary) analog states. The fact that we created a translator that can output this digital garble back as a resolution-limited analog analogue doesn't mean that within the digital system it has any meaning physically analogous to the "outside" existence of our physical universe. Thus, physics-wise there should be no reason for AI software (in its current form) to have anything to do with emergent consciousness.
So far we know consciousness has emerged in organic creatures processing analog data, and nothing else. Even if the lack of additional data doesn't mean it certainly doesn't exist, we shouldn't extrapolate the little data we do have onto other completely different scenarios just because, through illusion, they "feel similar" to us.
