I've played with AI models. And you know how you can get *good* at making an AI image generator to make the picture you want to make? By *wanting* to make the picture the AI is good at making. The only skill involved in making the machine realize your prompt is the self-mutilation of your own imagination. I wrote a satire of the SCOTUS that's a crossover between a pastiche of the host of 5-4 and Moxxie from Helluvah boss. I tried using chat gpt for it, and chat GPT is a complete idiot. No sense of comedic timing, no ability to keep a satirical point straight, can't tell the difference between my Michael quoting my KBJ and reacting to her while quoting her and what KBJ is saying. Can't tell Michael from Peter from Rihannon appart. Keeps wanting to introduce unnecessary magic and hellfire to the situation when the meat of the satire is how the transition from post 9/11 war on terror jurisprudence and executive deference in immigration cases creates a jurisprudence that is hostile to Habeas Corpus to everyone. I'm writing a contemporary romance novel with dual POV. AI keeps wanting to have a traditional "falling in love" arc when my characters *begin the story* already in love. I introduce elements of structural critique of the police and the AI wants me to go full ACAB. It sucks at subtext. Also it is useless at writing sex scenes. Writing texts is supposed to be the thing LLMs are good at. And they suck. They suck at philosophy, they suck at literature, they suck at humor, and they suck at poetry. I've played enough with LLM models and image generators - being curious about the technology, and what it made me want to do is it made me write poems, short stories and now I started a novel. On my own cause the LLM sucks - it is not as good as me at the craft of writing stuff. Made me want to get a computer tablet to paint on. Learn how to doodle on the computer. Cause the AI is incapable of drawing a tiny rat halfway inside a man's mouth that's kissing his tiny rat girlfriend while baking her a bagel. But I can doodle that in literally 13 seconds. (The AI is bad at drawing liminal states "halfway inside a man's mouth", multitasking characters "the rat is kissing his tiny rat girlfriend while baking her a bagel", and image composition. The only thing the AI is good at is asset fidelity - the rat looks like a rat (most of the time). And that's the boring part of a drawing, in my opinion.)
