Regarding Data and other similar sci fi androids (eg. Isaac from The Orville), my belief is that they do have emotions, just ‘android’ emotions that humans/biologicals cannot physically comprehend. The other beings aboard the ship assume Data has no emotions (which he repeats, as again the only emotions he knows about are biological emotions), but I think that he does have emotions, just unique robot ones that no one can understand, himself included
