I like your contribution so shall muse along with you. Neural networks are very impressive and every home should have one but they are still receivers - they are fed - they do not truly conjure, I think. You touch on this when you mention that humans do not know how we arrive at conclusions. This is very true and I have often attempted creative writing and the trick to proceeding is to empty one's mind and let the ideas arrive - from the subconcious if you like. One trains one's subconcious to work with the concious mind and this might be analogous to A.I. procedures except we can be reasonably sure we are not addressing datasets as they are understood. It seems to me that what we call conciousness is useful only as it can access and interact with the unconcious, which usually manifests as the senior partner. This is not to say that I have never deliberately chased a logical path to a conclusion in the front of my mind, but this process becomes possible after much musing on information provided by the boss. If I may venture an hypothesis, what we call conciousness is mostly inaccesible to our thoughts and operates as a black box, to which we are something like the input - output device. The true self and its system of working must forever be obscure to us and I assert that if A.I. develops something analogous to conciousness, it will be other than our own.
