Elon should take a similar approach to how most other car companies take when it comes to self driving car. And that is to use a multi sensors system. The reason why vision AI or any computer programs for processing vision task are bad because... Vision task is mostly guessing not something highly determinable. Believe it or not computer handling the RADAR system much better than handling camera based system, and that is why we have RADAR long before any camera based tracking system. This is because RADAR use radio wave which we have formula to accurately predict its behaviour but vision doesn't has any such formula for prediction... The same goes for LiDAR system and ultrasonic sensor, those systems are more forgiving for computer... And also to it put simply it is also because we did a better job describe the radio wave, sound wave...etc mathematically than say... Describing photo mathematically... And that impact how computer process those data... Because the further away it is from mathematical models the more difficult it is for computer to sort of understand it/deal with it... Computer only does well with numbers and logic. The vision AI is very inefficient... Most robots or computer that run the program for visual data procession tends to need a lot of computational power... For example human and most of other primates need only a few watts of power to process visual data as our brain are more efficient at visual procession meanwhile most robots nowadays would need a powerful computer that sucks up to 50 watts of power or so just to get a fraction of visual data procession as human.
