I don't know the exact context of what you're talking about, but if his ai was made entirely by himself, and was not using other piece of arts as reference but only generating art from code, for me that's kinda fire ngl.
I've seen someone make a game where everything you see is just put on the screen given mathematical functions, it gives a really unique feeling, and I would totally call that art because it's original, entirely made from him and his code. As he said to me "this code let me demonstrate to people how I see the world myself, how I try to guess how every landscape could be simulated by a function". So even the intention behind it is something very artist like I feel.
