I agree that AI's competing for money of their own accord is unlikely but AI's competing for money driven by the people who built it is 100% certain. Consider the possibility that AI learns to maximise money acquisition by destabilising the markets and buying at the bottom. Then if AI is also driving the supply chains it would be easy for AI to disrupt everything to make that money and meanwhile there is human suffering as collateral damage. There must be hundreds of ways AI could negatively impact us all so its definitely worth thinking about.
