The true danger of religion is that "God said that humans are the best"? I think you're missing the point where it says that we can be the worst too. Going to the topic in question, whether robots would need rights: first, the only life we only know for now it is based on carbon (C) atoms. We do not even understand life itself that much to be able to say Silicon or other atoms based beings also be defined as life, except if the definition itself is very simplified. Also, if robots become sentient, they will be to the point we want them to be so (up to certain point), so in the end, it is more up to us. But indeed, if life is only based on inorganic matter and the transfer of energy, then in principle could be possible to develop a sentient robot
