@WysteriousWhims Generating ai images is a skill like any other. You can’t just ‘write a prompt’ and have it look super good. Say what you want about it, there is clearly a massive difference between someone who spends a lot of time honing how they use this (relatively) new tool and baby’s first ai-generated image. This is ignoring the refinement portion of ai art. You have to learn how to manipulate and restructure the image based on what you are trying to achieve. Plus, there is also coming up with interesting situations, framing the image in a way that is aesthetically pleasing, and spending time removing/minimizing artifacts that can be fixed for certain images. Ai art has not even remotely replaced conventional art, but allowed for more people to engage with new tools to help them express their creativity through new channels. Before some people wouldn’t bother enhancing their artistic skills because of the exorbitant time and focus commitment. Now you can easily take an idea from your mind and realize it using ai to express it. And you can still tell a story with ai art like any other. Especially if you curate things in it to convey a message. So yeah, ai art is art. Not everyone with access to the technology can put out things that even look “good”, but it is still art. On creativity, it is easy to say that it doesn’t count with ai art since it is pulsing from a pool of human created works. That it’s cheating. To that I would say something similar to the extent in regards to photography. The world has already been made. In both mediums, the skill expression comes from spending time to bring and arrange things “into frame”, if you will, to express ideas. All in all, I don’t necessarily disagree that ai art can be very easy to push out mediocrity with. This needs time for things to improve. This has gone on for ages, where the new thing is criticized. Especially with the advent of photography, you would have critics claiming that no creation was involved in the process. You just captured what was already there. But, eventually people warmed up to it when those who believed started refining their techniques and showing everyone the unique advantages to this new tool.
