1 AI does not do the same thing; not even remotely. Learning to create art is a developmental process involving imagination and prespective. AI image generation is grafting file data together based on common denominators, and this is absolutely fine, as long as the file data is not stolen from someone else.
2 This will not make artists obsolete at all because image-generating AI is dependent on them for its source material. Any progress it would make toward replacing them is damaging to itself.
