I guess you're not too familiar with the physical hardware.
The cards these networks run on run at 2 Ghz. And the thing that holds the network in a usable workspace is RAM.
2 Ghz is 50,000,000 times faster than what a human brain works, which is where all the 'machine god' discourse comes from. Anyone with a single working neuron would know a virtual person living for 50 million subjective years to our one would be able to build and invent many things that'd otherwise be impossible magic.
Chief among them, proper neural networks for gruntwork, and the process to print the NPU to run them.
These are more animal-like computing substrates: You don't need a stockboy to run inference on all of his reality 50 million times a second. You could probably get away with 20 to 40 times a second, and not even all the time, if idle. This dramatically reduces the amount of electricity you have to run through the thing by orders upon orders of magnitude.
On-site robots that don't require a car to haul tons of matter back and forth for no reason would obviously more be efficient, if these things existed. Which would be one of the chief products AGI would be used to produce.
A lot of people are in denial about a lot of things, but change is coming. Of one kind or another...
