I’ve been a software developer for 15 years and if you think it’s useless you’re going to be in for a fun time over the next few years. Is AI overhyped? Yes. Is it useless? Absolutely not. The nuance to all of this is that over the next 2-3 years I would predict about 40-50% of software developers are cooked. Ironically enough, the software developers whom think AI is “useless” are a part of the 40-50%. The other portion of the 40-50% will consist mainly of frontend developers and junior developers. I don’t say any of this because I’m some big AI fanboy, I say this genuinely it is the reality of the future.
