They still have it legitamately but someone that just straight up plagiarized them and took all the credit.(heddy lamarr for example) So its not stealing? No it is stealing. Ai dosen't only steal "styles" when you feed art to it. It also takes the identity of the victim. To replicate it and pretend its "legit". And sorry to inform you but mimicking someone exact style to pretend you are the original artist and sell the fake art is illegal in most european country (i don't know about us). We call that being a "faussaire" ( "a faker" idk if there is a litteral translation). So if it is illegal for humans to do it, it should also be illegal to ia to do that. The only reason it is not illegal yet its because this technology is recent and still in a grey zones in the law. To continue my point about ai stealing "identies" because i hear you comming with an response " yes but it still not theft if artist still have their styles". You would have a point there if ai wasn't also stealing their identy with it. What do i mean by that? A style of painting like impressionism is vague and can have multiple shapes. Thats every artist that have different interpretation that makes their work unique and not feel generic. But ai models are trained to be more performing not by creating new styles with different interpretations like a human would to but by stealing them. You would say "yes but artist also get inspired by other work and copy them". The main difference with the humans and the machine in that case is the fact that human copy to learn but ultimately create something new and inovative with all of theirs experiences, while ai also learn by copying but it is only trained to mimick others. So a hardworking artist that forge his style through many years with influence of all around the world, and posess something really unique, can have his style digested by ai in 10 min. This art was his identity. Him. So when an ai model copy someone work it steal their identity. An identity is something that shouldn't be usurpated. It is something that only the owner of it can posses. So yeah an ai can steal a "style" beacause it steal the "identity" behind it. For exemple the famous digital painter SamDoesArt got his style plagiarized by multiple Ai models. So now his image can be used by other against his will. Pepole could make atrocious images using the ai models and other would think that was him, and that would deteriorate his public image/reputation. So he does not have a full power of his identity now he technicaly got "stealed" And before you ask it yes you can steal someone identity even if the victim still have teirs (obviously) they are a lot of case/trials of pepole claiming to be others persons and spoiler it didn't go well. In conclusion. Ai is theft for e reasons. It can be use to plagiarise someone art/usurpate an artist identity/ make money scamming pepole online. Because the models don't create new "styles" they take the ones that already exist. Those crimes are illegal for humans and should also be for Ai. With all those information i hope you will understand more the reality of ai in the ar world. And even if you do not agree with me.
