I find that I generally lack a lot of the key skills for drawing. I'm not great at visualising something and manifesting it into paper, proportions of lines, smooth hand control, creativity sometimes, or like even knowing what lines to draw to make an image like I can see a reference but if it's not already lines I won't know where to draw specific lines, and I'm really bad with shading especially black and white. I got my only A- (except the last semester which doesn't count for some reason where I had a breakdown and got like C's in math and physics and stuff despite that being my usual strong suit) in a drawing class specifically because while it wasn't graded on skill, my final piece had awful shading because I didn't try very hard, specifically because the teacher was really bad and didn't teach me what I should even be doing to try. Despite this, in that class I did one drawing I was really proud of, and not just that I felt good about it, it was genuinely much better quality and something I would actually consider objectively to be pretty good (I actually ignored all of the teachers "advice"/instructions and rules...). And another piece that turned out pretty good, maybe even one more. I've also made a few random projects and especially things that aren't directly drawing but are mediums of art, where I've really surprised myself. I once copied without tracing an image of Cosette from my Les Misérables book cover just for fun to play with my touch screen laptop, and somehow I actually got it to look really good by just trying and adjusting and editing and going until I got one line right after another after another. I was especially proud of how I made the hair look good as it wasn't as simple as just copying a shape from the book cover. All of this to say, I'm not even a GOOD artist/drawer specifically, and I might never be. And I mean like most of my attempts are BAD like not like Lav's early drawings she shows where you can see she has basic skills understood. Despite this, I've proven that I'm physically capable of making decent drawings, maybe even pretty good ones. If I truly wanted to, I KNOW I could become a LOT better and even become really skilled if I committed to practicing every day, watching videos, reading books, trying lots of mediums, and most importantly once again practicing every day for years. I probably won't because it's not that important to me. If I for some odd reason need a specific image I'll just commission someone and feel good about supporting an artist's career that they put in that work on. If I need to express myself, there are other things I've put more time into like music that I can use, or I could learn things like poetry or photography etc. And for now the world wouldn't run if everyone did art for a living, so it's okay to have a job to make money doing something boring and still create things just for fun even if they suck. I'm still contributing and earning a living and can still express myself creatively. It's just all around such a forced defence for AI. Like to some extent you can bring up somewhat valid or sensible claims and arguments even, but what's the point in trying so hard to defend it when you can just relax, make bad art for fun, and pay people whose work resonates with you to help achieve your aesthetic goals when you need something to display.
