Raw LLM Responses

Probably the strongest argument against generative AI is that the companies that make those systems uses the work of thousands, if not millions, of artists to train the models. And I see the problem there. BUT why is no one complaining that, let's say, ChatGPT is using information written by hundreds of millions if not billions of people to train THEIR models? When a writer does research about a certain era to give authenticy to their work, are they stealing from those authors? ALSO if AI is stealing from artists to train itself, aren't artist stealing from other artists every time they see a piece of art that will inspire them later on? What about when they use other art of photos as reference to whatever they are creating? Isn't an artists style just an amalgamation of all the art they seem and studied throught their lives? All those past experiences stored and mixed in their brain to create something new. There's very little a person naturally know how to do. Almost everything must be taught or learned in some way or the other. Isn't every skill we have built on the ones that came before us? Aren't we much closer to machines than we'd like to think? Or should I say machines are getting much closer to us than we'd like to admit?
