I think I generally agree with your point, but I'd push you a bit to say it's closer than you might think. By that I mean, much of what you mentioned is very close to how the *human* experience of creating art works - we live lives, "steal" (experiences, words, expressions, etc) from others we meet/read, mix it up in a big vat with our own perspectives and experiences (which notably AI does not have yet), and spit out something...else. You're certainly right that those lived experiences and perspectives contribute a *lot* to art, but I want to push back on the idea that "stealing from others and mixing it up in a big vat" is inherently bad or uncreative. Musicians for example - for many artists, you can directly trace the lineage of what they listened to growing up by hearing their music, because it's exactly what you say: a bunch of ideas they absorbed in their life, mixed all together, and spat out something new. You can *hear* these melodic phrasings that are very Hendrix-y, prose that is very Dylan-y, vocals that are very Springsteen-y. Again, I do on the whole agree with you that what AI makes isn't art. But I'm not willing to rule it out, because I do believe the process it uses to create...whatever it is it creates - does inherently mirror the human experience of creating art to some degree.
