Elon Musk and Roman Yampolskiy argue as if they’ve glimpsed the source code of reality.
Plato once spoke of his “Cave,” suggesting we may only see shadows of truth, and Descartes doubted everything that seemed real with his “evil demon.”
Musk and Yampolskiy have simply turned that ancient idea into a Silicon Valley remix: “What if we live in a simulation?”
To me, it’s another symptom of human hubris, mistaking speculation for truth.
Instead of humility before the cosmos, we invent stories that put us back at the center: religion, AI myths, simulation theories.
Whoever views the world as Matrix code eventually believes it is one.
What begins as curiosity ends as digital dogma, rationalized fears of death, insignificance, loss of control, chaos, and responsibility.
It’s a worldview soaked in tech esotericism.
Or, to borrow the spirit of Steve Jobs:
“Whether we live in a simulation or not doesn’t matter. As long as you can’t change it, what counts is what you create within this reality.”
Simulation or not, you still have to pay rent, eat, love, and die.
Reality isn’t code.
It’s responsibility.
