While sheer physical destruction of infrastructure could, in theory, stop an AI, modern and especially future systems could be resilient and distributed enough to make it extremely difficult, costly, and potentially futile unless carried out globally and coordinated at massive scale. The idea is hotly debated and highlights why many experts stress the need for robust “off-switches” and control systems long before things reach this point.
