@annA48126 To my knowledge, no reputable AI researchers have made such a claim. Surely such a massive breakthrough would've been all over the news. ChatGPT is a so-called Large Language Model. It's been "trained" to predict the most likely word following a given text. When the "training" is over, the model is locked down (the "training" procedure is very computationally heavy,) so it doesn't have an active memory or the plasticity of animal brains, meaning that it doesn't learn anything from "chatting" with users. The reason that it appears like you can have a conversation with it is because every time you enter a new sentence, the whole chat session from start to finish is fed back into it. It'll then try to predict the words most likely to follow. That's why it has forgotten everything you told it when you start a new session. That doesn't sound like self-awareness to me, at all.
