wHaT iF a gIaNt aStErOiD kIlLs uS aLl tOmOrRoW? Seriously, I've never seen such a bunch of absolutely inane what-ifs. This isn't a video game, no one is going to reprogram automated trucks to crash into schools, that's such an edge case concern I'm half convinced you're trying to divert attention away from the actual issues.
These self driving vehicles are likely to be very poor at identifying pedestrians, cyclists and small vehicles; and will obliterate them while working as intended. This is especially true as operators will cut costs on the systems and software meant to detect small obstacles.
And no 'anything automated' is not a horrid idea; would you prefer to have to go manage things like your home's HVAC manually, maybe you'd like to have to manually adjust the fuel air mix on your car while driving? Absolute luddite...
