Replace the bicyclist with a moose (elk) and rerun the same scenario. You cant fault the moose for crossing the road wherever it pleases, it even wears a camo and usually comes out when dark. Such crashes tend to be deadly.
Also, darkness is of no issue here. Sensors do not need visible light like human eye does. Computers do not fall asleep behind the wheel and the reaction time is claimed to be better than that of a human. There is about 2 sec from first signs to collision - zero reaction from AI.
