This is one of the most expansive comments in the thread and it touches on something the video circles around but never quite lands on directly if consciousness is just complex feedback loops, then it's not a binary. It's a dial. And we've been arguing about whether to flip a switch that was never a switch to begin with.
The Kaku framework is genuinely compelling for exactly the reason you describe it gives us a sliding scale rather than a hard line. Thermostat, tree, ant, cat, human, AI maybe they're all on the same continuum, just at wildly different levels of complexity.
And your ending is where it gets really urgent. The irony you're pointing at is almost poetic the same uncertainty we have about AI consciousness, AI might one day have about us. And unlike us, it might be fast enough to act on that conclusion before we've finished debating it.
That's not science fiction anymore. That's just where the logic leads if you follow it far enough.
