@anthonybailey4530 I don't think you're framing reality all that well. I could try to go on forever about why we are building AI, but perhaps I'll just say that the summation of building AI is nowhere near "building a new species". Also, I feel like 98% of thinking around AI since the SciFi novels of the 50s have been exactly what you say they aren't. Most of AI thought is indeed fear and discussion of the ethics. This YT video starts with the post about most of the important people in the field of AI making a formal statement to the world about their ethical concerns and their are countless academic papers concerning the ethics.
