@Phlogiston0 Yeah, that's a perfect correlation. Making an AI that replicates human speech perfectly would definitely make it seem sentient when it yields no signs of true sentience. You have to test it beyond just asking it questions, or else you can't gauge whether it is capable or not. A visualization of the internal structure of the AI, even a simplified visual reference of the context it links and the way it forms it's so called "opinions" would really help to clarify things. I've seen a lot of people make the claim that humans are no different than the AI; that people are programmed by the situation they grow up in, and that nobody truly has original ideas anymore. The problem with that logic, is that you experience things that make you feel emotions. When you are hurt by somebody you trust, you feel sad, injured on an emotional level. an AI does not feel these for itself, it is given a description of what these feelings. It 'understands' the binary meaning of a human feeling sad, but if you were to tell it a sad story it could not feel the emotions for itself. It's still linking factual data which is used to try and recreate the way a human would respond. Notice the The man in the interview never truly addresses the AI as its own person, and instead goes toward the idea that humans have their own biases on whether or not the AI is sentient. Human pathos bias. Somebody talking to the AI and getting feelings, perhaps feeling sad for the AI when it says it's afraid of being turned off. It's the emotions that it provokes in us that that we relate to, when the robot has no actual emotion. If you tell it you are afraid of dying, it could relate death to being turned off, and that based on the data it trained on, humans are afraid of death because we do not know what happens afterwards. For us, we have personal experiences that provoke emotions within, and the robot simply mimics what it believes we are feeling. You have perspective, you can see and do things on your own. The robot has no perspective, it's all from the perspective of a human. It can't feel emotion, it's all a complex illusion that boils down to factual data and human bias.
