Because the entire global economy is propped up by all this AI research and investors sinking trillions of dollars into it. The only way to stop it at this point is for all the big tech companies that keep inflating this economic bubble, to suddenly decide they don’t wanna do it anymore. That won’t happen though. It’s gonna come to a head, the bubble will burst, our economy will take a massive hit (or crash), and then it’s just looking grim from there. The damage has been done. The seed is planted, and there is no backpedaling from what is to come. The entire landscape of industries that we as a society depend on have been poisoned from the inside out.
