ill wager a bet that it was the vast minority of photographers that tried to pass photography off as oil paintings. even then, i can find no evidence at all that that even happened. plus, AI's sole purpose as an "art" tool is literally to mimic other art forms. that's it's only purpose. also, at the time, photography was an entirely NEW art form. AI, again, can only mimic other forms.
