Consent, that's why, instead of simply asking they just scrapped all the intelectual property of artists and made them part of something they never wanted to be, now most of the artists have a bone to pick with AI, that's the consequence of their actions.
They could have paid artists, not even that, they could have asked for volunters by offering people the option to opt out or consent beforehand, but instead they either straight up stole or paid websites to steal for them.
And now you have whole communities of people not only proffiting of them, but rubbing It off and insulting artists, there is quite literally no escape so people lash out, and sincerly not only I don't blame that reaction but I supoort It
