government cares about the people exactly as much as is required to maintain their own power, but UBI is something plenty of right wing US states have been considering (or have already implemented such as Alaska) and will probably be just a necessary thing by the end of the century. If AI really does destabilize the entire labor market it won’t be economically viable to do anything other than implement a UBI / more social support programs. Governments might not care about people but they definitely care about things that could tank the economy
