There IS something new here. Warhol and Fairey appropriated knowingly, often with a clear conceptual or critical intent, and it was obvious to the audience. AI remixes unknowingly, drawing from millions of human works without context, consent, or attribution. The result may look like art, but the process lacks authorship, lived experience, or meaning. Its content laundering. It’s the “i made this meme.” When you direct AI, you're not creating, you're curating from a black box trained on collective human output. That’s not evolution, it’s dilution. It changes what we call authorship, and it shifts the cultural weight of creative work in ways no past tool ever has. It’s literally robbed all future humans the ability to create *anything* without the suspicion of AI arbitrage.
