It isn't preposterous at all, it's just plain fact. Humans don't have inbuilt GPS and radar systems that can see traffic in 360 degrees around them. Self driving cars do have that, there is no record of them causing a single accident despite thousands of them being on our roads right now all over the world. And yes they can drive across a large city unaided by humans. and beat pro drivers on incredibly difficult obstacle courses that you would say were impossible to drive at high speed.
