I still think the risk is way overblown. Companies claiming "layoffs due to AI" is not necessarily the same as "layoffs due to genuine AI productivity improvements." I guarantee most of these layoffs have more to do with the amount of money they spent on AI rather than any actual productivity gains. Simply, they spent too much on AI and needed to find the savings somewhere, so they laid people off to finance the project. IF those productivity gains materialize, then no harm done to the company, but if they DON'T, you'll likely see a wave of re-hiring as people adjust their expectations to the reality of what AI can and can't do. Trust me, I sell AI enterprise software for a living, and the tech is nowhere near the level where companies would trust a chatbot to make a decision instead of a human. Heck, I'm always nervous demoing; once or twice the agent has literally hallucinated live in front of a prospective customer. So embarrassing.
