He claims that just because we know the algorithms doesn't mean that we don't know what is happening with AI... but that's not as true as he makes it sound. There are a lot of things that do know about them. E.g. we know that they don't have internal thoughts. They get an input and then deliver an output after the computation. Any thinking thing has continuous spontaneous thought. That means it would be running always and at least part of its output would be looped back as inputs driving an internal monologue per se. I don't think we can say something that can't speak of it's own accord to you is "thinking". That when you leave a conversation, it doesn't ask, "umm, are you still there?" That it has no conception of time. Yes, these are things that can be introduced to models, but they aren't because they make the math far less suitable for GPUs to have loops and a small world network (like actual brains) rather than this purely feed-forward approach modeled on just the visual cortex.
