A better example for non-physical technologies is developing the programming capabilities necessary for robotics and automation. Yes, there is still labor in creating and maintaining automation, but - if you factor in the labor in creating and maintaining the labor force which automation replaces - the overall labor is still significantly less.
Again, the true problem with this is in our social structure. Without significant social changes, we are naturally headed toward exponential income inequality.
