After all, you did need someone else to make the device and the program you are using. Does a painter need to make their paintbrush from scratch? Graphic design is indeed a work of art. Even if you are just choosing what fonts to use to make a webpage look better. You want the people who see the page to feel a certain way when looking at it, to get a certain vibe off it. You are working with what you have, and what other people made and shared with everyone so they could make things off of it. See it as a collage of things other people have made. Someone made a webpage using the fonts that someone else made. And if you cant find something that feels exactly how you want it to, you either make it yourself or make it work with what you have. This last thing is starting to change because of AI. Right now, you will never "not have" something, because you can generate it in seconds. But with that, we lose creativity, inspiration, emotion, everything that comes with art. At this point, one would start to ask, why make anything by ourselves if the machine can do it for us? Why not just let the machine feed you soulless slop? It looks good and it makes whatever you want. Humanity is turned down in favor of convenience, laziness and/or money. Just look at Angel Engine. Sure the writing is made by a human, but if AI didnt exist, the writer would have looked for an artist to help with their project, or even learn basic photoshop or drawing themselves. It would have been completely different. Made completely by humans. Art. If the creator was only willing to write the story, then it should only be written. Why would we watch a video the creator themselves couldnt be bothered to make? Generative AI is the opposite of art, the opposite of humanity. pictures that were not taken, drawings that werent drawn, music that wasnt composed. Made with barely any human intervention. The prompts qualifying more as "art" than the piece itself. Corporations finally managed to automate creation, and with that comes the consequences. They will do anything for profit, even if it directly harms artists and their works. Up to this point in history it had all been the same. Humans made things that other humans used to make other things. Thats how art works, how it should work, but things are changing because of AI. It will never go back to the way it was. When every picture you saw was either real or at least edited by a human. When every drawing you saw was 100% made by someone. When every book you read you could be sure was written entirely by another person. Generative AI is not a tool, its a replacement for human expression. In terms of art, we have a dark future ahead of ourselves.
