With images everything on your screen is made up of millions of pixels and Nightshade basically alters the colors of the pixels to be uncohesive to an ai generator while still looking fine to our eyes as to not ruin our art. So if you "poison" an image of a hand and feed it to an ai when it tries to reference this hand picture it can't makeout anything from the image causing what it generates to be a horrible image of a hand.
