There are several differences. Firstly, its disclosing your sources. If you make a rotoscope animation using someone else's footage, its good practice to credit the original video. Secondly, its monetization. If you are copying or referencing other copyrighted work and then monetizing it, that is a breach of copyright. Thirdly is fair use or paid sources. Some sites will allow you to pay for the rights to stock images, uploaded by the original creators with their consent and for compensation, for things like photobashing or referencing without the need to disclose the source, and with the ability to monetize. Generative AI breaks all of these rules and so does James when he claims to not be referencing anything and monetizing the plagiarized work.
