That’s because Yudkowsky is the leader of the culty Rationalists and his kind of “rational” thinking is part of gross mix of tech bro cultish beliefs.
He’s afraid of AI now because he thinks it’s going to be god and he thinks he’s and his Rationalists are the only ones who can “align” it. Since they didn’t figure out AI first, they think, they think it’s going to be the scary version of god AI.
