that isn't how that works... when making a commission a contract is made that YOU no longer own the piece you made... its a contract, if you discussed with the person that YOU still own the artwork and the rights to it even though you are letting them use it, you would still own it... its an agreement that is made between the 2 parties. depending on the platform these ai generating tools in TOS either say you OWN everything you make with it, or you don't... thats the contract of agreement of ownership, for example: suno ai the thing charlie was messing around with before, if you are a subscriber, anything music you make using suno ai, is fully yours and you can even distribute it commercially (albeit unsuccessfully since no one likes ai generated stuff on principle). and just because the copyright office doesn't give stamp of approval it does not matter, their approval isn't needed, as soon as something is created it belongs to the owner of it, it doesn't take a government body giving its approval for something to be copyrighted, as soon as you created it, its copyrighted.
