One of the weirdest parts of modern AI is that models often develop skills they weren't specifically trained for. This is called Emergence.
Or the case of AlphaFold ... it's a perfect example of this "black box" reality.
Developers didn't sit down and write code that said, "If you see a Hydrophobic amino acid here, tuck it into the protein there"
Instead, they built an architecture (specifically a Transformer) and showed it the 3D shapes of about 170,000 known proteins.
The AI then "figured out" the physics of folding on its own.
