Yet that tiny bit that does involve consciousness is what makes the difference and is incredibly important to understand at least from the ethical point of view. I don't think consciousness can be reduced to computation because this leads to weird scenarios where you can drastically multiply the amount of consciousness in a system by doing slight alteration to it. I find it more likely that consciousness requires a specific substrate rather than just the right algorithm.
