It's not that I disagree with you at all. And I appreciate how you are debating this issue with me.
I think one negative externality from the mechanisms and systems we are using to have this debate at all are inspiring a level of public panic that could lead to negative externalities.
I am not seeing much care from leaders in AI to put the public and their values (feeling of safety, access to information, access to the humanities etc) first. We saw, during the pandemic that this led to some very negative externalities. I think the positives will be amazing if we do this carefully, but the conversations I have seen have not been careful, or at least are lacking a gentleness that humans need.
