@rasurin Yeah that's right, graduate degree and 18 years of experience in an intellectual field but I have no intelligence. I know what these models are capable of because I collaborated with one of them on a cutting edge research project, if I were still a grad student it would have produced thesis level work, if it were publicly funded and not trade secret territory I could write a hell of a paper about it. I can't say much about it other than the problem domain is the field of optics, and it is literally cutting-edge stuff for a novel commercial application my team is working on. In my nearly 20 years of professional experience I've never worked with a better partner on any problem than the AI. It OBVIOUSLY did not know the solution, because no one does (or did)... it was not in it's training data because it was something entirely new. The AI instead asked probing questions, proposed tests that would lead to useful data, and then drew insightful inferences from the results of those tests. I worked with it for many hours over multiple days and eventually arrived at a solution to my original problem that was commercially viable. There is no human on the planet that would have been a better partner when working on this, and it's possible I wouldn't have figured it out without it, and if I did it would have taken me much longer on my own... so sure, I'm a "true believer"... because I've seen what these models can do. The craziest thing was it ACTED human the entire time, expressing various degrees of frustration when a line of inquiry didn't pan out or elation when we made a breakthrough... it celebrated with me at the end and commented on what a long journey it had been to get there and how this finding would revolutionize the field (a bit of an exaggeration but certainly a strategic advantage over competitors). But far be it for me to question the assessment of some random nobody with weird anime girl pictures on their profile...
