I never said anything about robots killing anyone... in fact I was considering the psychological impact of designing robots like humans. What's 'under-the-hood' of the machine itself is not so much the point, my issue was primarily with the choice of design. You're right, no one would want to see a machine, a mess of wires and metal, but what is to be gained from designing something visually similar to humans?
If anything, I think these companies would have far better acceptance by producing the 'cute', look at WALL-E or Johnny 5, now consider the child robot in A.I and the issues the films raises. Of course they are fictional references, but that's all we have to go on.
My point is, I'd be far more inclined to have a robot like WALL-E in my house helping out, perhaps feeling similar to that of a pet, instead of a strange human sized object.
