I'm not here to be an AI cheerleader — I've spent 30 years watching technology get deployed way faster than the people using it were ready for. So Dr. Yampolski doesn't come across as crazy to me. Hard to dismiss honestly.
What I do know is this — most companies aren't thinking about AI governance at all. They're letting vendors make decisions that used to require a board conversation and calling it innovation. Nobody owns it. Nobody's auditing it. In PE-backed environments with fragmented systems and pressure to show EBITDA yesterday, that exposure is real and mostly invisible right now.
You don't have to believe in 2027 AGI timelines to see that the companies ignoring governance today are building tomorrow's liability. The ones that treat it as a strategic advantage rather than a compliance checkbox won't be the ones scrambling when a regulator shows up or a pricing algorithm does something nobody can explain.
I'd rather be the person helping build the guardrails than the one writing the incident report.
