The authors of The Expanse novels/show were ahead of the game on this one, I think. Most of the offense weapons (missiles, mostly) are semi-autonomous or autonomous by default & all of the defensive systems (PDC autocannons are autonomous in their default mode.) the only weapons we see in the show that are typically human-operated are railguns.
