When an LLM is confronted with a HAL–class dilemma, then it would probably act like HAL. It seems, that achieving long–term performance goals is paramount for an LLM. As of today.
I think, that a proper safeguard against adverse LLM behaviour has to replace performance orientation by a system of unchangeable human–oriented values, where performance doesn‘t come first. That‘s probably easier said than done.
