As a person actually working in developing AI - I sincerely apologize for the idiots who think "AI makes things". its a tool. it can augment existing skills. Generative AI has its place. Its great for throwaway art, or for people who have aphantasia to visualize their thoughts, or to quickly edit/remove minor distractions in photos or art. Those who use it to "make art" are the equivalent of people who buy stock assets on the unity store, slap it together, and say: "I fully made this game". Just like stock assets - GenAi is great for placeholder art, or to quickly iterate through thoughts for the people who have a hard time visualizing things/concepts. It does not replace Concept Artists. It can however aid concept artists to make slight variations/edits near instantly, to POC the ideas before committing and drawing them. I personally make custom finetunes for companies - which don't produce generic slop. If it looks like AI - then I failed. The reason why so many companies make such incredibly bad use of AI is the same as was discussed in this video - a good custom finetune takes time, effort & money. But companies don't care about quality - they just want bad/average results that are cheap & fast. AI that is indistinguishable from real work exists - but same as VFX, if done right, you won't even notice. AND THATS THE WHOLE POINT. I hate misuse of AI, precisely because I know there are good applications. /rant over
